A RESUME OF STRAY DOG LEGISLATION IN ROMANIA - 10 March 2011

A law for the management of stray dogs was first passed in 2001. The Government decided that a law obliging the municipalities to create a special service for stray dogs would solve this problem. ROMANIAN PARLAMENTARY COMMISSION MEETING ON STRAY DOG MANAGEMENT SFANTU GHEORGHE - 22 September 2010

On Sept 22 2010 FPCC attended with several other NGOs a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee for Public Administration in St Gheorge. The committee, chaired by PDL Deputy Mrs Sulfina Barbu, met to discuss proposed amendments to Law No. 227 from 2002, the law which prescribes Western European standard shelters and humane euthanasia after 14 days if dogs are not rehomed or reclaimed. THE NEW SITUATION

In June 2011 Mrs. Barbu again tried to force her Catch & Kill law through the Chamber of Deputies, proposing a secret vote.  Fortunately a majority of deputies rejected the secret vote proposal at which point PDL beat a tactical retreat, sending to law back for consideration of the committee for a 3rd time.
