Dog Sizes Explained

Dogs come in a wide range of sizes. The categories below help you understand small, medium, large, and giant dogs. Weight, height, and overall body structure are important factors to consider.

  • Small: 1–10 kg, approx. 20–35 cm shoulder height. Examples: chihuahua, dachshund, yorkshire terrier. Perfect for smaller apartments.
  • Medium: 11–25 kg, approx. 36–50 cm shoulder height. Examples: border collie, beagle, cocker spaniel. Suited for active families.
  • Large: 26–45 kg, approx. 51–65 cm shoulder height. Examples: labrador, golden retriever, dalmatian. Needs more space and regular exercise.
  • Giant: over 46 kg, with a shoulder height above 66 cm. Examples: Saint Bernard, Great Dane, Central Asian Shepherd. Requires careful care and richer nutrition.

Description

Melvin is a beautiful male dog, estimated to be born around April 2023. He has been with us at the shelter since he was just a puppy. He came together with his three siblings — two of whom have already found loving homes.
Melvin, however, stayed behind with his brother Matty, whose story we recently shared.

The two grew up side by side, sharing a strong bond. They patiently wait for the day when someone will finally give them the home, care, and love they both deserve.
At first, Melvin may seem shy, but once he learns to trust, he reveals his true nature – a gentle, playful, and incredibly loyal companion.

This wonderful boy deserves all the love in the world. We are looking for a patient, caring adopter who will give him the chance to experience what it truly means to be part of a family – just like his adopted siblings.

Melvin is vaccinated, microchipped, and ready for adoption.
