In August of last year, our team managed to rescue four abandoned puppies from the Băile Felix area. At that time, capturing the mother dog was not possible. Despite several attempts, she remained extremely fearful and inaccessible.
In fact, efforts to capture her had been ongoing for more than a year. Our team returned to the area numerous times, monitored the location and received information from locals. Sometimes she was seen from a distance, other times she did not appear at all. Although several people fed her, no one was able to provide real help.
A few days ago, we received crucial information: the mother dog had given birth again, and the puppies were still very young. This finally provided a real opportunity to intervene.
She was located in an abandoned basement, which she used as shelter and where she was nursing her puppies. After securing the entrance and carrying out a careful intervention among debris and rubble, using flashlights, we managed to capture both the mother and her seven puppies. The area was checked multiple times to ensure no puppy was left behind.
All of them are now safe. When her condition allows, the mother will be spayed, preventing further suffering and the birth of more unwanted puppies. This case will no longer result in additional abandoned dogs in that area.
However, this is not an isolated case. It is a direct consequence of human irresponsibility, of unsterilized and abandoned dogs allowed to reproduce uncontrollably. Occasional feeding is not a real solution and cannot replace responsibility.
Because of such situations, shelters become overcrowded, resources are depleted, and animal welfare organizations are constantly pushed to their limits. Every puppy born on the streets represents another struggle for survival.
Raising and caring for puppies involves significant costs, including vaccinations, deworming, specialized food, veterinary care and timely sterilization. In this case, seven puppies require all of these measures.
Despite the challenges, this rescue marks an important step. One mother will no longer give birth in suffering, and seven lives have been given a real chance for a safer future.
