On February 11, 2026, we were called to intervene in a critical case in the village of Botean, Bihor County. A large male dog had been spotted with a metal noose tightly embedded around his neck.
According to information gathered on site, the noose had been there for a considerable amount of time. The metal had cut deeply into the tissue and was barely visible on the surface. The injury was severe and extremely painful, carrying a high risk of complications, which made immediate intervention essential.
Reports indicate that the dog previously had an owner. He is believed to have run away and later reappeared wearing the noose, completely terrified. No one was able to approach him. He was not aggressive; he was profoundly frightened. His fear was so intense that any human presence was perceived as a threat.
Our first attempt to secure him was unsuccessful. The dog was extremely scared and difficult to handle safely. On February 11, during our second intervention, we managed to capture him without causing further harm and transported him immediately to a veterinary clinic. There, the metal noose was removed and his deep wounds were treated.
The images taken during the rescue are disturbing and graphic. However, reality must be acknowledged in order to be understood. Only by facing these situations can we recognize the importance of responsible ownership and animal protection.
His former owner relinquished him. Max will remain under medical supervision until fully recovered. After rehabilitation, he will be prepared for adoption and given a chance at a safe and caring home.
